| This year’s Kentucky Baptist Convention, held last week in Elizabethtown, was one of the most inspirational and informative annual meetings that I have attended. | Study Reveals Need for Discipleship in Kentucky | ELIZABETHTOWN – A study on the spiritual maturity among Kentucky Baptists has revealed a concerning lack of effective discipleship throughout the Kentucky Baptist Convention, said Scott McConnell during the closing session of the convention’s 170th annual meeting, Nov. 14. | Clay Crosse: Devotion to Christ is Critical | ELIZABETHTOWN – Pastors must keep their eyes on Jesus and pursue holiness at all times, said Christian vocalist Clay Crosse and his wife Renee during the Nov. 12 Pastor’s Conference, held this year at Severns Valley Baptist Church.
Nearly a decade after a life-changing encounter with God’s grace, Clay and Renee Crosse are committed to helping Christian couples strengthen their relationships with both God and each other. The Crosses were two of eight guest speakers at the conference, where hundreds of pastors and guests gathered to enjoy worship, fellowship and encouragement at the conference. | Messengers Appoint New Board Members | ELIZABETHTOWN – The Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Committee on Nominations today announced their nominations for members of the Kentucky Baptist Convention Mission Board and the boards of several affiliated institutions and agencies. | Messengers Vote to Shorten Annual Meetings | ELIZABETHTOWN – Kentucky Baptist messengers today approved a motion for future annual meeting business to be conducted on a single day. | Ky. Baptists Oppose Gambling, Commit to Protect Children | ELIZABETHTOWN – Kentucky Baptists demonstrated continued opposition to expanded gambling as well as their commitment to safeguarding children within the church when they approved a series of resolutions during the 170th annual meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. | Henard Elected KBC President | ELIZABETHTOWN – William Henard, pastor of Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, was elected president of Kentucky’s largest denomination today by acclamation. | SBC President Challenges Ky. Anna Mary Byrdwell and John Christian were recognized for their leadership in supporting the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists’ method for collectively funding mission and ministry efforts. | Mission Board Approves Tanzania Partnership, New Partnership Director | ELIZABETHTOWN – The Kentucky Baptist Convention Mission Board approved a new partnership with the Baptist Convention of Tanzania and the appointment of Scott Pittman to partnership missions department director during its Nov. 12 meeting at Severns Valley Baptist Church.
The mission board also approved a plan to raise awareness and educate churches about safety and security issues, and approved a recommendation for a total budget goal of $25,300,000 for 2008-2009. | Partners In The Mission:

| The annual meeting of Kentucky Baptists will be held Nov. 13-14 in the beautiful, new facilities of Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown. | Missions-Minded SBC President to Speak at KBC Annual Meeting | LOUISVILLE - So much media attention focused on Frank Page winning the Southern Baptist Convention presidency as an underdog that many Kentucky Baptists may not be aware that missions helped turn around his declining congregation.
When Page went to Taylors First Baptist Church in 2001, attendance had sunk to 1,000 amid a steady, 10-year-long decline. Although some members participated in mission trips organized by other churches, the congregation had only sponsored one—way back in 1976.
Today more than 2,500 people attend the South Carolina church, part of a groundswell that has touched Sunday school attendance, giving and missions. | Study Reveals ‘Startling’ Statistics About Ky. The annual meeting will include an address by Southern Baptist Convention President Frank Page, the release of a special research report on spiritual maturity among Kentucky Baptists and a session of 10 practical workshops on conducting missions. | Henard To Be Nominated As KBC President | ELIZABETHTOWN—Bill Henard, pastor of Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, will be nominated as Kentucky Baptist Convention president during the KBC annual meeting Nov. 13-14 in Elizabethtown. | KBC Now Accepting Resolutions Under New Procedures | LOUISVILLE – Following new procedures approved at last year’s annual meeting, the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Committee on Resolutions is now accepting resolutions to be considered at the 2007 annual meeting.
All resolutions eligible for consideration must adhere to the new procedures. The procedures specify that submissions will be received as early as June 1 but no later than 30 days prior to the next KBC annual meeting. This year, that date will be October 14, 2007. | |
