Western Recorder, KBC Receive Communications Honors

PHOENIX – Staff members of the Western Recorder and Kentucky Baptist Convention Communications Department recently received seven awards from the Baptist Communicators Association.

The awards in the annual Wilmer C. Fields competition were presented at the BCA’s annual workshop on April 18.

Award winners from the Western Recorder were:
  • Trennis Henderson - First place for a news article entitled, "BWA Urges Reconciliation, Names Jamaican to Top Post" as well as a first place award for an editorial entitled, "Are Diverse Baptist Groups Open to Unity?"
  • Drew Nichter - Honorable mention for his feature series of stories that appeared in the Western Recorder on "Kentucky's High Impact Churches".
  • Dannah Prather - Second place for a feature article entitled "Sack Full of Love" and a second place award for a feature series entitled "Open Hearts: Special Needs Ministry in Kentucky".

Winners from the KBC’s Communications Dept. were:
  • Jonathan Johnston and Larry Brannin - Second place for producing the Despising None podcast hosted by Joe Ball.
  • Robert Reeves - Second place award for the "Fast One to Feed One" public relations and development campaign for the Southern Baptist Hunger Fund created for the Mission Service and Ministries Dept.
