Kentucky Baptists Connect has established major objectives and goals that will help churches throughout Kentucky seize an important opportunity to reach out to lost people in our state in an unprecedented way. One of the Connect goals is to launch a new ministry that touches a group of people your church has not reached before. The Church Reaching Out is a strategy developed to help churches begin new outreach ministry points.

New outreach ministries might include: food pantry, clothing closet, multi-housing Bible study, jail/prison ministry, pregnancy care, after-school program, literacy ministry, job skill training, substance abuse recovery, medical/dental care, homeless shelter/transitional housing, resort/leisure ministry, etc.

Outreach Ministries Enable the Church to:
  • Be the hands and feet of Jesus (Matthew 25:34-40).
  • Serve as agents of spiritual transformation and social justice (Isaiah 58:6-12).
  • Show God’s love to everyone (Luke 14:12-14).
  • Communicate genuine compassion and Christ-like servanthood (John 13:12-17).
  • Share resources with those in need (Acts 2:42-47).

Benefits of Starting New Outreach Ministries:
  • Identifies Prospects.
  • Creates Opportunities for Sharing the Gospel.
  • Connects Your church with Your Community as you Serve.
  • Reaches Out to the Not Yet Reached.
  • Helps Churches Communicate the Gospel in Word and Deed.
  • Renews and Refreshes the Church.

Steps to Beginning a New Outreach Ministry Point:
  1. Pray seeking God’s leadership.
  2. Share the vision and involve others.
  3. Gather information and assess community needs.
  4. Determine giftedness and available resources.
  5. Plan the ministry.
  6. Equip members to intentionally share their faith in the ministry setting.
  7. Set the plan in motion and experience “the church reaching out”, transforming both community and church.
